Tricky away game against lower league opposition. Two players score who have been lambasted by plenty on here in recent weeks (me included). And a clean sheet. Let's have a proper go at this cup.

Ginge, Noble and Rice were outstanding.
Great for the scorers to get the confidence boost of notching.
The rest all did pretty well today. I know it was 4th division oppo, but for the most part, we made the simple passes count most of the time, and a few tricky passing exchanges which if pulled off like tonight, test any opposition. Confidence is probably at the heart of our problems.
We really need a good showing and result at the weekend to give us a bit of momentum, and a kind draw would be nice.

Nice one Johnson, think Rice needs to settle at centre back in the future

Sakho was very good today, threw himself into the game, played well.
Rice is Noble Mk2 as exciting for us as Nobes was at his age, needs to watch his passing sometimes though.
Nice little ground, good atmosphere, proper West Ham away support, plus I'll be home before the coaches hit the M40 for once.

We kind of blundered through the game just doing enough to keep Bilic in the job for a bit longer, by scoring from a couple of weakly hit shots
They missed a few sitters
Still a win is a win regardless of how weak the opposition are
If it gives the players a bit of confidence it can only be a good thing
Not an impressive but good enough
Big Ginge was the hero of the day on his 34th birthday
Much better defender than Fonte despite his ageing legs, surely a starter with Ogbonna against the barcodes
Rice looked good again

Rice is already twice the player Fernandes is, never understood what people saw in him last season

In case there's a penalty shoot-out with 2000 misses.
This way, there be a concrete result before the draw.

Not sure why people are bothered with Newcastle having extra time, as only about one player who started the game will play against us!
Credit to us for fielding a decent team tonight with all the away games we've had.

I got to be honest, I do not see what Alex V and several other posters see in Fernandes. Its opinions of course but he has played a few games at the end of last season and now this season. He is hardly involved, not physical or strong enough, not fast. Decent passer but does not work hard enough. Maybe he will improve but for me he is a sub at best for the first team. IMO he needed to go out on loan to the Championship to toughen him up.

"A question though, does anyone remember a past season where so much has been made of what position a team is in after two games? Not just us, every team?"
Is it like that in the real world?
I'm going to have to go out and have a close look at this real world thing.
I thought it was just WHO.

Newcastle 2-3 down now.
Good performance but not great. Slow first 30min but we got better. Start of the second half just seemed too easy. Midfield was crying out for subs after 60min.
Rice was the stand out player for me, sakho looked quick & strong. Masuaka looked like roberto Carlos at times!

I was pleased to see Ayew improving a bit.
He's still got a long way to go, though.

Well I enjoyed that.
I hate watching us (or anyone else) on telly because you can't see players and their movement off the ball but I saw enough of Hernandez and his clever runs (and stops) to see that if him and Sakho play together with Antonio back in the side we'll have a good season.
A question though, does anyone remember a past season where so much has been made of what position a team is in after two games? Not just us, every team?

Fernandes and Arfur were poor . Ayew improved after scoring. Sakho still not fully fit but main thing is that he is improving a little every game.
Collins MOTM, Rice was neat and tidy, Byram decent aside from his final ball.
Good to see Kouyate get some minutes.
Noble, Obiang and the rest were ok and we looked one dimensional at times with no wide players.
That midfield needs improving still even with Antonio and Arnautovic available.
How I look at it, it could have been worse.
